Chris Tomlin has amassed a number impressive accolades and achievements in the course of his career thus far: 12 #1 singles, a Grammy, BMI Songwriter of the Year, etc. In Love Ran Red, Tomlin presents his ninth album and the follow up to Billboard stunner Burning Lights. The question is, does Tomlin still have it in him to churn out the good stuff yet still have something fresh to share?
Tomlin continues to pump out his signature brand of worship music, and within this collection you’ll hear some melodic growth – if only he were stretching himself more as a lyricist. Some potentially outstanding songs are marred by a reliance on overused metaphors and phrases. There’s a lot of love in Love Ran Red, and worship leaders will certainly avail themselves of the new slate of church songs. His current following will be right on board. But a larger contingent may come away just feeling bored.
Standout Tracks: “The Roar”, “The Table”

Tomlin’s forte is not wandering through the depths of life and reflecting on the complexities of humanity, such as is found in the Psalms; it has always been in offering accessible truths wrapped in beauty and melodically adding powerful emotion with gorgeous turns of music.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” seems to be the mantra worship leader Chris Tomlin is set to live by on his latest recording, Love Ran Red, and we’re pretty sure that fans are going to be just fine with that.
Jesus Freak Hideout
Love Ran Red is a bit like a sequel in the (new) Hollywood tradition. It may not equal the best entries in that particular series of movies, but at its best, it reminds you of what you liked about the movies in the first place.
Formulaic to a “T” and covered with almost every worship cliché possible, Love Ran Red will certainly satisfy the masses, but few others.
“Love Ran Red,” in short, brims with so many stellar worship songs that it’s legacy in terms of serving the church’s praises is going to run long and deep.
Christian Music Review
Chris Tomlin delivers another heartfelt worship album with ardent, emotional tracks sure to be covered over and over again. Love Ran Red will restore your soul and remind you that Jesus is an endless source of joy, strength and sustenance.
