Album: Be the Change
Release Date: November 4, 2014
Standout Tracks: “Be the Change”, “Runaway”
Overview: If catchy, gospel-centered power-pop is your tonic, you may want to invest a few bucks into Be the Change, the latest from Chicago-based artist Shuree and her first on BEC. This six-song EP takes off guns-a-blazing with the title track, a co-write with Nicole Witt and Christa Wells that establishes her powerful voice both as a singer and as a songwriter. Of course, it also sets the bar pretty high for the remainder of the album, and it’s hard to measure up – she sure does try, though. The energy level and grooves are relentless in the best possible way. The record closes with another winner, “Runaway”, which features Manwell Reyes of Group 1 Crew, that will challenge you to keep still as the infectious rhythms roll over you. Be the Change is hard to resist, so we suggest you just dive in.
